About this position

Quantum devices, such as quantum sensors and quantum computers, are becoming larger and more mature. With the scaling of these devices, it has become increasingly important to perform electromagnetic analyses and simulations to elevate their performance. At the Radar Technology department in TNO we have a wealth of experience in electromagnetic design of microwave ICs and sensors to create the best radars possible for the Dutch Navy. At the Quantum Technology department as well as QuTech, a joint venture between TNO and TU Delft, we work at the forefront of quantum research. What will be your role?

You will join our team of microwave designers with a focus on quantum microwave device development. You will be working on both civil and military applications in quantum computing and sensing alongside teams of skilled professionals designing classical hardware and fabricating and measuring quantum devices. You will translate operational requirements of the quantum computers and sensors onto design requirements, discussing possible design improvements, developing plans for analyses, and running the corresponding circuit and EM simulations of your design.

What we expect from you

You are a physics or electrical engineering graduate with a masters or PhD and:

• at least 10 years of experience in electromagnetic modelling in either Ansys HFSS or CST Studio or similar software;
• are capable of mapping your existing experience onto new and challenging device architectures;
• are capable of translating operational to design requirements;
• you possess a strong drive to improve and innovate your work;
• you enjoy the challenge of exploring new research areas at the cutting edge;
• you enjoy programming, preferably in python, as a tool to push your abilities;
• you can research new topics both by yourself or within a team;
• you are able to work minimally three days between offices in The Hague and Delft.

You would be the perfect candidate if you also have

• any experience modelling quantum devices;
• a practical background in quantum mechanics;
• knowledge on cryogenic device design.

The selection process

The selection process comprises two interview rounds. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
A certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is required before starting a new job at TNO.
